This video takes me right back to my freshman year at Ohio State seeing the Maniacs at the Newport. She still makes my heart skip a beat. What a crush I had on her.

    • This was the band's first charting song; it was written by lead vocalist NATALIE MERCHANT and is simply about being unhappy on a day when the weather is bad and she can't think of a decent reason to get out of bed. The sombre lyrics contrast with the upbeat melody on this track: when Merchant sings words like "A quiver in my voice as I cry, 'What a cold and rainy day,'" the band plays a cheerful tune. • STEVEN GUSTAFSON (bassist): "We liked to play toe-tapping music. Stuff you could dance to with a big beat. Her view of the world was sometimes in stark contrast to that joy we got from playing. It made us unique."

something deep and trippy and energetic about this song. She sings deep issues about the relationship in few words. interesting. Deep for such a young girl.

I see a lot of messages in this song and act. Hippi girl with relation issues, she sings about supression to remedy things yet wants no part of it. With a catchy jam and psychadelic white people type lights and guitar . Interesting combination of talent.

As the progressives get blocked by the right and the left, for the money they can suck up, the people are still here to feel the pain. Just the facts.

I remember my brother sneaked me into a bar to see the Dixie Dregs a few years before these guys were around (I was a minor) and so maybe I was primed to like these guys, who more represented my generation. I was so happy coz MTV era music scene was y'know... pretty limited (I'm being very nice). And Maria McKee was like a better version of Janis Joplin to me, who I'd listened to and liked ok but tho't y'know--- that was the old people's stuff! This band was so fresh+fun I couldn't believe my luck that I saw them. I was just sad when it fell apart--- coz for years there was very little for me to listen to in pop music. For decades. Even now... tho' these days we don't need pop music to find interesting leads anymore. So all is ok... But I really would have liked it if these guys had stayed together + kinda put my generation slowly in tow haha.
